One of the ways we do this is to encourage our kids to "make" their own "toys." :-) (I wrote about this in greater details on my Truly Rich Mom blog here. :-) Feel free to hop over and read my entry!)
We also try to teach them why we need to save money: so we can invest and earn passive income and ultimately share our wealth with others. We even include this in our daily prayers during the "T" segment of our "ACTS" prayer ("ACTS" stands for Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, Supplication):
"Lord, thank You for blessing us with multiple streams of passive income so we can help and bless others."
To be honest, hubby and I don't make much as fulltime workers for our Catholic community, but by joyfully anticipating every day the multiple streams of active and passive income we claim God will bless us with, we are already claiming our blessings from the Lord. Not because we are greedy or anything like that. But because we want to help others, especially our immediate family members, and also do mission whenever, wherever, without having to depend on other people's generosity.
So yes, call me weird, but really, I (we) believe that raising smart savers is a TOTALLY Catholic thing to do! Remember, money doesn't buy happiness, but it does buy your freedom - the freedom to love God more, and to bless more people in ALL things, not just spiritually! ;-)
Praying for God's blessings for you and your family always!
- Teacher Mama Tina
